May 8, 2024  |  Shelly Clasen

Congratulations to our Creation Care volunteers and the entire Outreach & Justice community!

On May 19, State Senator Fady Qaddoura will present St. Luke's UMC with a State Senate Resolution that recognizes St. Luke’s UMC for the work of our Justice ministries in promoting environmental protection and sustainability, combatting racism and LQBTQ discrimination, and addressing other social justice issues such as gun violence, homelessness, tenant advocacy, mass incarceration, redistricting, and voting rights. The Resolution, authored by Senator Qaddoura, also recognizes St. Luke's initiatives to enhance interfaith cooperation, such as partnering with members of other faith traditions in visiting their houses of worship, and engaging in book studies and other activities involving theologically and culturally diverse topics.

Elected to represent Indiana Senate District 30 (the District in which St. Luke's is located) in the 2020 general election, Senator Qaddoura is a member of the Democratic Party and is the first Arab Muslim lawmaker in the state's history. Prior to his election, he held the positions of controller and CFO for the City of Indianapolis, starting in 2016. In 2018, he was named CFO of the Year by the Indianapolis Business Journal. He holds degrees from the University of New Orleans (computer science) and Rice University (public administration) and a PhD (philanthropy and public policy) from IUPUI. Senator Qaddoura has multiple committee assignments and is the Ranking Minority Member of the Senate Tax and Fiscal Policy Committee. St. Luke's is proud to call Senator Qaddoura a friend and ally in the work of justice in our community.
