J. Philip Newell

Poet, author and peacemaker J. Philip Newell will speak at St. Luke's on Friday evening, May 18 ($15 at the door), give a day-long workshop on Saturday, May 19 at Christian Theological Seminary (register below by 5/11; cost is $60) and preach at St. Luke's on Sunday, May 20 at the 8:15, 9:30 & 11AM services. Co-sponsored by The Garden and Christian Theological Seminary.

J. Philip Newell will begin his weekend in Indianapolis with an Introduction to Celtic Spirituality on Friday, May 18, 7-8:30PM in Robertson Chapel.  Saturday’s workshop will be based on his most recent book, A New Harmony: the Spirit, the Earth and the Human Soul.  The rhythm of the day includes prayer, lecture, contemplation, sharing and will end with Newell’s Mass for Peace.  Saturday, May 19, 9AM-4PM, Christian Theological Seminary.  Registration required for the 5/18 event; cost is $60/person. 

John Philip Newell is the co-founder of Salva Terra: A Vision Towards Earth's Healing www.salvaterravision.org. Formerly Warden of Iona Abbey in the Western Isles of Scotland, he is currently Companion Theologian for the American Spirituality Center of Casa del Sol at Ghost Ranch in the high desert of New Mexico. He is internationally acclaimed for his work in the field of Celtic spirituality, including his best known titles Listening for the Heartbeat of God and Christ of the Celts, as well as his poetic book of prayer Sounds of the Eternal. His most recent book releases are A New Harmony and Praying with the Earth. He is a Church of Scotland minister with a passion for peace in the world and a fresh vision for harmony between the great spiritual traditions of humanity. Canadian by birth, he lives in Edinburgh with his family where he undertook his doctoral research in Celtic Christianity. Since then he has played a leading role on both sides of the Atlantic in the re-birthing of a creation spirituality for today.
