Inclusiveness
St. Luke's Inclusiveness Ministry is a racially and culturally diverse group that supports St. Luke's in its focus on inclusiveness by being intentional as a congregation to live in true community with people of various cultures, faiths and ethnic backgrounds as we together celebrate similarities and honor differences. The team meets monthly to develop and partner with other program areas at St. Luke's to further its goals.
Some of the programs supported by the Inclusiveness Ministry include Spanish classes, encouragement of diverse invocators on Sunday mornings, race relations study circles, dinner and dialogue and the Later @ St. Luke's Sunday evening services.
Maria Blake at MBlake@imcpl.org or 293-3156 or Stephanie Eckert at wjeckert@aol.com or 848-5977 are co-chairs.
Race Relations Dialogue-to-Change Circles
Race Relations Dialogue-to-Change circles are being held in 14 locations around our community for the purpose of creating understanding and commitment to address both individual and structural racism through community-wide dialogue and action. Each circle consists of a diverse group of 12-14 people who, through open and respectful sharing and facilitated discussion, explore their feelings on race and racism, learn facts and concepts and, personally and as a group, commit to an action that will move Greater Indianapolis toward becoming a community free of bias and structural racism. This community-wide effort is being sponsored by the Race & Cultural Relations Leadership Network, a sub-committee of the Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee (GIPC), the Indianapolis Neighborhood Resource Center and St. Luke’s UMC.
