Be a part of a team writing letters to men and women incarcerated in Indiana. Your identity is protected; all letters go through UniteIndy. Many of those incarcerated never hear from anyone. They want to know that they have not been forgotten and that someone cares. As active citizens we need to know more about our prison system than what we learn from TV and movies. Remember the words of Bryan Stevenson, “Each of us is more than the worst thing we’ve ever done.”
HOW WOULD YOU REPRIORITIZE US SPENDING TOWARD EDUCATION?
Equitable funding for education is possible — if our elected officials make it a priority. Inadequate public education funding is a continuous and devastating problem, particularly for communities of color and in areas of concentrated poverty. Without meaningful investment, the same issues of unequal access, limited school resources, and more will continue to resurface.
