Healing Ministry

“Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and curing every disease and every sickness among the people.” (Matthew 4:23)

The Ministries of Jesus
Teaching, preaching and healing became the foundation of Jesus’ ministry. Today, Christians extend these ministries of Christ through their work here on earth.

The Ministry of Healing
How was the healing ministry of Christ expressed? The New Testament recounts many incidents of people being healed by their faith, by touch and by prayer (Mark 11:22-23; Mark 2:5; Luke 8:46). Christ instructed his followers that those who believe in him would do works greater than what he had done (John 14:12-15). Consequently, Christians have been involved in the healing ministry of Christ as far back as the Gospels themselves.

“Are any among you sick? They should call for the elders of the church and have them pray over them, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord,… so that you may be healed. The prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective.” James 5:14,16

It is fitting that St. Luke’s United Methodist Church promote an active healing ministry. After all, Luke the Apostle, was a physician. He wrote frequently of healing as a part of the spirit and presence of God:

“The Spirit of the Lord has been given to me for He has anointed me. He has sent me to bring the good news to the poor, to heal the broken hearted, give sight to the blind, and freedom to the downtrodden.” Luke 4:18

Pilgrimage Healing Process
The Pilgrimage Healing Process is a "hands on" healing developed by an Episcopal priest, Tanya Beck. This process involves lying on a massage table as two trained healing partners open themselves to God's healing power and go through a series of prayers and movements to help God's love flow into you. All those experiencing physical, emotional or spiritual pain or those wanting to more fully experience God's love and peace are invited to make an appointment. You may bring family members or friends with you to pray during the session.

In a Healing Partners session, the participants ask God for whatever mental, spiritual or physical healing the person is most needing. The healing touch used in these sessions can relieve stress, tension and fatigue and frequently any symptoms associated with these conditions. The sessions re-energize and relax persons to enable their own natural resources to deal with illness or injury. Changes in attitude and the quality of life often follow and continue the work begun in these sessions.

Healing Partners work in the facilities at St. Luke, as well as in nursing homes, retirement homes, and hospices. These services are not a substitute for medical care, but this healing ministry complements such care.

To schedule Healing Sessions, contact Sarah Nevin, or call 846-3404 x442. This is a voice mail box, please leave a message including your phone numbers and she will return your call.

The Healing Partners is a healing ministry of love. There is no charge for healing sessions. Donations are gratefully accepted. Your donation supports the work of St. Luke’s and the Healing Partners.
