Angels Among Us

“Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.” Matthew 18:5

I usually try to fact check stories before telling them to you, but I frankly was too busy to check this one, but it’s a neat story so I’ll pass it on anyway. England means “land of angels.” Legend has it that when England was part of the Roman Empire, slave traders brought back children to Rome. An imperial official, when he saw the children, said they looked like little angels and so the children from that land were not to be mistreated.

Regardless of the truth of the story and how England got its name, Jesus reserved his harshest words for anyone who hurt a child. Just check out Matthew 18:6! And conversely, he said that when we welcome children in his name, it is like welcoming Jesus himself.

Well, you just helped us do a lot to welcome and love children in Jesus’ name. Our annual Angel Tree ministry took place last Saturday as gifts purchased for families were wrapped and given away. Some wonderful stories came out of this year’s Angel Tree. So what better way to celebrate Jesus who came as a baby than to share stories about children...
