Veteran Givers

November 10, 2023 • Rev. Rob Fuquay

The Wounded Warrior Project has been around for 20 years, but its purpose continues to evolve. What started as a support for veterans returning home after suffering physical injuries, has become, especially in recent years, more complete support that provides mental and emotional care as well. Veteran suicides have been a growing and significant concern. WWP seeks to connect with and help veterans experiencing trauma from their military service. Their website chronicles inspiring stories of vets who got the help they needed to put life together again. Stories like this one... https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/mission/meet-a-warrior/sam-hargrove

What’s powerful about most of these stories is how vets find the ongoing help and hope they need by offering help to others. As they give back, they receive help and hope to keep going.

Too often we talk about supporting our troops when they are away. But the greater support might be needed when they return home. The lesson they show all of us, and this is particularly poignant coming up on a Sunday when we make pledges to support the church in the year ahead, is that our giving gives to us. We receive from what we give back. If you’ve gotten nothing else out of the worship series so far, I hope you will hold onto to the idea that A Blessed Life comes not so much from what we have as it does from what have to share and give.
