United Methodist Women

United Methodist Women's mission is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative supportive fellowship and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.
The United Methodist Women provide an outlet for adult women to channel their involvement in St. Luke's ministries. Through several circles, a community of more than 400 women live UMW's mission. Organized by age and interest, UMW circles meet regularly and undertake individual projects. Members also pull together for annual fundraising projects, which include two rummage sales and a holiday bazaar. If you are interested in participating as a vendor at the bazaar, our Vendor Application may be downloaded here. Before sending a Vendor Application, however, please read and complete our Holiday Bazaar Handcrafted Form to ensure that your particular product meets our guidelines. If you have questions, please send email to umwbazaar@stlukesumc.com.
More information about the UMW connectional system may be found at the UMW of Indiana website.
In addition, two activities occur each month: the UMW Reading Circle, and Second Saturday Breakfasts. The UMW Reading Group meets the third Monday of every month from 7-8:30PM in the Parlor. Newcomers are always welcome. Childcare is available if requested one week in advance. For information, contact Jennifer Todd at jtoddosu@aol.com. See the book selections in the Communion Monthly or by signing up for the UMW Newsletter (see link below). The Second Saturday Breakfasts meet (obviously!) the second Saturday of each month (does not meet during the summer). All women are invited -- simply show up at Hotcakes Emporium at 86th & Ditch at 9AM. Questions about breakfast? Contact Sandra Pirkle, UMW President, at skpirkle@indy.rr.com or 317-733-4183
Each year the United Methodist Women of St. Luke's raise and distribute over $20,000 to many organizations within our church and community, as well as to world missions. UMW also participates in sponsoring several area food pantries, provides summer lunches for children at Brightwood and Fletcher Community Centers, and raises funds and delivers goods and food for Fletcher Place's annual Christmas shopping program. See a copy of the UMW Food Pantry Drive Grocery List for a shopping list of desired items.
