As we head into a busy summer, we want to share the latest on our Making Room project:
- The sidewalk around the new addition has been completed, with paving scheduled for next week.
- The new addition is in its final stage and is on track to be completed by the second week of June. This will add 7 classrooms, two family restrooms, and the Hub for Hope—a space for community support efforts and diaper distribution.
You may have noticed the temporary wall outside Fellowship Hall/Bookstore. Its demolition should be finished this week, opening up a larger space with a clear line of sight to Fellowship Hall—and a quicker route to the Donut Room on Sundays! Two additional single-user/family restrooms will also be available, completing the restroom plan for the center of the building, scheduled to open the first week of June, hopefully in time for the INUMC annual conference.
In mid-June, during a week when over 300 children will be in the building, contractors will work nights to minimize disruption. When the new construction opens in the third week of June, our Freedom School staff and volunteers are excited to utilize the new classrooms. The focus will then shift to reconfiguring the Central Passage and securing the Children's Area with a single entrance on Sundays for added safety.
Last week, we hosted dinners for new members who joined between August 2024 and April 2026, sharing updates about the project and inviting prayerful support. Thanks to the generosity of our congregation and adherence to the giving schedule, we have avoided taking a construction loan over the past two years. While costs are projected to exceed the original plan, increased giving and new commitments continue to increase the support for the project.
Once demolition is complete, we will have a clearer financial picture and will keep everyone informed as we work toward completing this project without debt. Our goal remains to finish before the end of 2026. If you have questions or want to learn more, please contact Nancy Lange or Steve Lankton.
We look forward to seeing the new space come alive with classes, ministries, community support, and fellowship. Thank you for your vision and commitment to supporting this important project that helps us continue as a beacon of hope in God's mission for St. Luke's future.
