If you want to see true gratitude in someone's eyes, give them a gift card or a huge bag of groceries as their SNAP benefits are being cut. That's what happened at our diaper distributions this month. As families came to pick up diapers, they were also given a gift card (on November 4) or a bag of grocery staples (November 15), and their faces initially registered shock and disbelief. Some asked as many as three times what it was. As reality sunk in, we were then the recipients of more “God bless you!” responses than we've ever heard. As they drove away, they thanked us profusely through wide smiles.
As Pastor Jen shared in her message a few weeks ago, we can only whisper, “It's our privilege to share with you. YOU are worth it.”
Thank you so much, St. Luke's, for your outpouring of generosity this month. We have enough groceries to also hand them out on December 2, which was our hope. We can also use some additional help that evening to manage the delivery of these heavy bags.
Thank you again for supporting our diaper pantry through your donations and your volunteer time. You have made a real difference! Because of you, our community has been blessed at a time when blessings have been hard to come by for so many.
